Hospital bed with spindle drives

Two drives adjust a hospital bed: one the height, the other the tilt of the foot section. ASOMv10 shows which forces act in the drives, joints and bearings.

The task

Two drives, friction in all joints

The example shows part of the kinematics of a hospital bed or an examination table. In practice, spindle drives are often used here. The task is to find their drive forces as well as the joint and bearing forces over the entire motion sequence, including the sliding friction, which depends on the joint forces.

What ASOM shows here
  • Each spindle drive can be combined with a supporting pressure spring if required; constraints make both follow every change.
  • Drive, joint and bearing forces continuously over the entire motion sequence, with Coulomb sliding friction in all joints and guides.
  • Height and foot section move in real time; diagrams and element shadows update automatically as they do.
Your benefits

Drive forces with friction, right from the start

You design drives and bearings with friction taken into account – already at the conceptual design stage.

Choose the right drives

You know the drive forces, including friction, over the entire motion sequence before you select drives. More on force calculation

Variants without rebuilding

Constraints keep the model consistent; you try out other pivot points directly. More on constraints

Design bearings reliably

The bearing forces with friction show what joints and guides have to withstand.
