Flush-mounted door handle

A retractable door handle moves via an intermediate position to its end position. ASOM designs both linkages for this and calculates eight drive cases at once.

ASOM with the door handle mechanism: canvas with a four-bar linkage and an attached slider-crank, below it diagrams of the drive torques5:01
The task

Two movements, precisely coordinated

The mechanism consists of two subsystems: a four-bar linkage with a slider-crank attached to it. The start, intermediate and end positions of the handle are specified. At the same time, the forces matter – for different drives, with or without a spring – as well as mounting and collision conditions.

What ASOM shows here
  • Two two-position syntheses in series hold the start, intermediate and end positions in place – even when you move bearings or joints.
  • Forces and torques for eight drive cases at once: two possible drives, each with and without a return spring, with and without breakaway force (2 × 2 × 2).
  • Mounting and collision conditions stay in view; every change updates all results immediately.
Your benefits

Compare drive variants before detailed design

Instead of calculating each variant separately, you see all cases side by side and recognize which drive is suitable as early as the conceptual design stage.

Requirements reliably met

The three positions of the handle are maintained while you optimize the mechanism. More on syntheses

No case overlooked

With and without a spring, with and without breakaway force: all combinations are checked at once. More on force calculation

Installation space in view

Mounting and collision conditions show early on whether the mechanism fits the available space.

Symmetrical six-bar linkage for a door

A six-bar linkage guides a door, with the joints arranged symmetrically. The synthesis is built from constraints alone, and the start and end positions remain adjustable.
