Kinematic for Pedestrian Protection

In this example the basic kinematics of a pedestrian protection (represented in a simplified way) are analyzed. The pedestrian-protection kinematic consists of a four-bar system and an actuator.

The animation for the engine hood consists of two parts: the normal opening and closing process and (in slow-motion) the protection-activation process. The main focus in the second part is placed on enlarging the buffer zone between engine block and engine hood.

The use of the kinematic exact-pose synthesis feature in ASOM enables the user to modify each and any of the bearing positions without losing the conditions for the desired position of the hood. The movement for the normal operation case is generated by a part of the mechanism that acts like a four-bar linkage. The movement for the protection-activation case is generated by another part of the mechanism, which acts like a slider-crank system.
