Joint friction
How much force does friction cost? With a pin diameter and a friction coefficient for each joint, you compare manual and joint forces with and without friction.
A door with a door closer is moved by hand. The example shows how ASOM calculates the manual forces with a deliberately simple model.

The example looks at opening and closing the door using the door handle and, at least when opening, also pushing directly on the door – with a shorter lever arm in that case. The task is to find the required manual forces.
You model only as much as the task requires and still see how much force the hand has to apply at the handle or on the door.
You see whether the door is easy enough to move, both at the handle and when pushed open. More on force calculation
Constant friction torques are sufficient here; for greater accuracy, you calculate with force-dependent joint friction.
You model the behavior of your door closer with a script, without reproducing its inner workings. More on scripts

Where should the hand apply force? ASOM shows the manual force for many application points at once in one diagram – even while you move the points.

Two gas springs whose force depends on temperature and direction, plus a parcel shelf on a cord. ASOM shows all manual forces for opening and closing in one diagram.
Describe your mechanism to us. In an online demo, we will show you ASOM using your example.
