Sliding and rolling: contour on contour

Unlike the circle example, the part that slides or rolls on the contour is also freely shaped here. ASOM simulates both cases precisely.

The task

Free form on free form

A part of any shape is to slide on a contour that is also of any shape and, in the second case, roll along it.

What ASOM shows here
  • Sliding: an arbitrary shape slides on a contour of any shape.
  • Rolling: the shape rolls along the contour.
  • Some components that create the necessary kinematic constraints are hidden in the video.
Your benefits

Free-form parts in motion, too

Whether sliding or rolling: in ASOM, you also model motions between two free-form parts.

Free-form contours

Spline rails reproduce curved contours, including closed ones. More on the building blocks

Model rolling motion

With the travel connection, you can model two arbitrary rails rolling on each other.
